The Bereziv community of Sumy region became the winner of the competitive selection announced in May, in which a total of 6 communities of Sumy region took part.

UCORD Project support will include:

  • consulting the community regarding the formation of an appropriate working group,
  • development of a local waste management plan (WMP),
  • providing assistance in the preparation of a strategic environmental assessment of the Local waste management plan (preparation of a statement on determining the scope of SEA and a report on SEA, participation in public hearings, if necessary),
  • testing in practice Methodological recommendations for the development of MPU.

As a result of the cooperation, a corresponding case study will be prepared, which accumulates useful lessons and conclusions of the preparation of the Local waste management plan in practice, because this is exactly the goal of the project.

The Swiss-Ukrainian project “Ukraine’s Cohesion and Regional Development”, UCORD, supported the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine in the development of Methodological Recommendations, which were approved by Order No. 288 dated 03/15/2024.

Local waste management plans are important strategic documents of territorial communities in achieving waste management targets set by the Law “On Waste Management” and relevant regional plans. First of all, these are practical tools for proper care of the well-being of Ukrainians and our environment.
